The College of Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Geosciences beginning August 2019.
Qualifications:
PhD in a relevant area is required. Postdoctoral experience is preferred. Possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, show potential for a productive research/scholarly program, and pursue external funding to support research programs involving undergraduate and graduate students. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in the areas of sedimentology and stratigraphy and/or paleobiology. Candidates with a background in hydrogeology, in environmental or low-temperature geochemistry, or in geophysics and whose interests overlap with the priorities already listed will also be considered.
Responsibilities:
Faculty are assigned an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year for the first year. Beginning the second year the workload reverts back to the standard instructional workload of seven to eight (7-8) course units per academic year, with the possibility of a decrease in instructional workload based upon research needs. This position supports the Geology program with the potential to interact with students in the interdisciplinary graduate and undergraduate programs in Environmental Science and Studies. Teaching responsibilities will include introductory and upper–level geology courses and may include graduate–level environmental science courses. The candidate will likely teach a graduate-level environmental geology course in alternate years.
